Information

The cultural landscape is a sculpture park in the middle of the agriculture land near Paasdorf. A rectangular concrete surface has been moulded in a small section of the land with ornamental elements left open. The ornamental pattern stems from a 19th century pattern book.

On a small segment of the meadow at the beginning of the cultivated landscape, a terrace-like concrete surface was cast in the shape of a trapezoid, from which the lines of an ornament were left out. In the trace of the ornament the surrounding nature continued, with grasses and plants, depending on the season, grew in or over the trail of earth. On the one side, where the piece borders onto the street, this trail ends in benches, and on the opposite side it hits upon a slope and integrates a shrine in the ensemble. The leaf-shaped ornament is based on a collection of pattern books from about 1860 from the artist’s collection. She wants the work to be understood as a trail up to the process of civilization, in particular the cultivation of nature. In keeping with its indexical character, the trail seeks to circumscribe further processes. Over the courses of years, it will weather and once again become part of nature.
