Information
The cut as the step from tree trunk to plank is the central theme of this piece, which is entitled 'Abundance'. 40 tree trunks were arranged according to a mathematical principle to form a 'cathedral'. The installation had to be dismantled for conservation purposes.
Everything in the world of objects is form. It is the imprint of an immaterial spirituality. As immaterial spirituality, the table necessitates a board. The board necessitates a cut. The cut necessitate a tree trunk. In this work, the moment between the tree trunk and the board is recorded. This moment is defined through the cut. The form that thereby arises constitutes the module. The module consists of two parts, a form decided upon by the artist and a form developed by nature. The module is one whole. The 40 tree trunks have been designed according to a mathematical principle. This principle always follows the number 5, in the overall height and that of the base, in the cross-section of the beams and in the pattern of the floor plan. The arrangement in Zwettl represents the third possibility of spatial organisation. It is monumental. It is a cathedral for the stone that stands in front of it. The stone bears the title 'Centre of the Universe'. The trees are arranged in an open way and represent a biological system overlaid by a mathematical-technical one.
