Information
The artist designed the altarpiece and 14 Stations of the Cross in the chapel of a home for the elderly. The altarpiece was not accepted by the management of the home, and furnished with a curtain. This curtain almost always remains drawn, one way for users to deal with an unloved piece of art. Despite repeated pleas from the artist to Church authorities the altarpiece has remained covered.
Christ in suffering expressively, contorted in agony, he hovers, frees himself from the cross, fragmented human bodies are illustrated in his surroundings. The white line (the distance between the printing plates) signifies the separation of body and soul – attaining immortality. Technique: wood carving, rolled printing stock.
