Information
'Bela, Hannah, Laszlo, Zoe...' is the title of this installation. Seven screens were set-up in the entrance hall that served as partitions between the thoroughfare and the seating area. The screens bear photographs showing stills from films with children in a range of roles.
The original proposal for the Krems hospital comprised a signage system and photographs that were to be integrated at various locations in the building, but mainly in the entrance hall that was to be redesigned. In the first phase of realization, one decided to redesign the hall by constructing seven paravents that serve as partitions between corridor and sitting area. On both sides photographs have been hung. Andrea van der Straeten’s intention was to juxtapose different images with what was happening in the hospital, by arranging sequences of pictures that could evoke both familiarity, but also distraction or attention. A game of hide and seek in the green is the one side and the self-indulgent combing of carpet fringes the other side. These halted film images that were staged by actors resembling children were digitally produced and then photographed from a TV screen.
