Information
'Wobbel' is what David Moises calls his hydraulic seating objects, which function according to Archimedes Principle. Sausage-like tanks in the schoolyard are filled with water and interconnected by tubes. When sat on, the body weight displaces the water within, and wobbles through the system.
David Moises is the Gyro Gearloose of the Austrian art scene. He tinkers around with what are known in art circles as an 'Objet trouvé'. This can be anything from a bicycle to a garden shed. In his arrangement such objects could mutate to form a porch swing. Each object is given a new function. Why shouldn't one be able to rock with a garden shed the way Moises has mounted it in the frame in place of a bench.
For the Zistersdorf Landesberufsschule (vocational college) David Moises came up with Wobbels. These are hydraulic seats that work according to the principle that water always finds its own level. Water-filled sausages lie around in the courtyard like funky benches for the breaks, interconnected with tubing. When you sit on one you experience the water-bed feeling. The body's weight expels the water and the whole system starts wobbling. The soft surface is inviting and makes people curious, so they try out the unfamiliar hybrid object. It is communicative furniture but also a structure that communicates with itself. It is also a subversive commentary on the stringent codes of conduct within bureaucratic structures, a profound one but not without humour.
