The subject of the Klangturm St. Pölten exhibition 2007 was named in the programmatic title. The basis of the approach taken by the media artists Markus Wintersberger and Eberhard Kloke was provided by the opera L’Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi — one of the first intermedia artworks. What characterises an intermedia approach today, what kind of possibilities lie in, and topics can be addressed in, the field of music and the realm of sound, and where the future could lie was hinted at in 2007 at numerous events in St. Pölten in the most varied of ways. The point of departure was provided by the Klangturm, where interested parties were able to pursue, above all, the potential of their own voices in research laboratories from April to October, whether as part of a large-scale light and sound installation or as a contribution to the exceptional piece for voices Aria by John Cage. The visitors' gaze was directed to symbolic locations in St. Pölten via 'peepholes' from the viewing terrace of the Klangturm. These locations then emerged, brought back to life as speaking and talking beings, in the video installation Talking Buildings, which could then be visited on foot with the aid of specially prepared treasure hunt cards. This was demonstrated in two performances over the summer that made the intermedial approach an experiential one. In the performances Passion123 (intermedia fractures between music, image, light and language) and Parsifal Entfernung. Sakrileg Kundry sound, dance and video projections were combined to create a complete experience. Added to this came the key role also played by the atmospheric spaces of the diocese museum and the ceremonial chambers, the venues for these events.
Further events were held in the Cinema Paradiso, where videos were screened that had been completed during a workshop by Markus Wintersberger with the students of the vocational college in St. Pölten.
