Daniel Spoerri
Born 1930 in Rumania. He began making his first works, his so-called “snare-pictures,” in which he records everyday situations in the form of assemblages, in 1959. Daniel Spoerri was a co-founder of Nouveau Réalisme (New Realism) and invented the term “Eat Art.” More than 150 art catalogues are devoted to his work and are testimony to his rich exhibition history. Spoerri has taught at academies in Germany, France, and Austria and has established two foundations, Il Giardino di Daniel Spoerri in Tuscany as well as the Ausstellunghaus Spoerri and Esslokal in Lower Austria. The Ausstellungshaus Spoerri is located in Hadersdorf am Kamp and shows works by Daniel Spoerri alongside works by his friends in changing exhibitions. Daniel Spoerri’s various private collections are also presented there. In 2015, he received the Silver Cross as a Decoration of Honor for Services to the State of Lower Austria.
