Born 1965 in Bludenz, Austria, Siegrun Appelt lives and works in Vienna. She was a recipient of an Austrian state grant for visual art in 1998 and for photography in 1999. A photo and media artist, Appelt has been working with the themes of time and movement since the end of the 1980s. She also made a project for the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2008, in which she focused on energy efficiency, and she began to create playfully aesthetic pictures of color and light. In 2011, she launched her project Langsames Licht/Slow Light.
