KOERNOE’s cooperation with the Department of Schools is an important constant of its commitment to art in the public space. Especially at educational institutions, it is elementary to integrate and mediate art. Art as an area of our society that points out alternative creative possibilities and unusual lines of thought and that can act independently of political and economic interests. Art as an offer for discussion and critical debate, art as an enhancement of a location.
In order for art to be perceived as a positive challenge and enrichment, it is important that students, teachers, and visitors find an access to the realized art projects and are supported in their examination of them.
“Perspectives on Art” is a mediation project at eight selected vocational schools in Lower Austria. It is based on a concept developed by Bernd Haberl and Sissi Makovec, which was recommended for implementation in an invitational competition for innovative approaches to information labels. With the help of questions, they try to support viewers directly in an individual approach to the respective art project. Everyone can and should find an access to art.
In each case, a panel with a cut-out silhouette of the work of art was installed within view of the work. A specific question about the work encourages visitors to take a closer look. A link leads to the website www.perspektivenaufkunst.net. There, interested visitors can find more detailed information about the various works of art and the artists who created them, as well as about the concept of art in the public space. In addition, there is the possibility to record one’s own thoughts and perspectives on the works online. In this way, an ever-expanding horizon of perspectives and readings of the works of art is created.
