Information
Lois Weinberger, who addresses unspectacular peripheral zones, selected an almost forgotten spot on a hill next to the railway siding for his 'Mauer' (Wall) that corresponds to the walls of the steep terraced vineyards above
Mauer (Wall) was made with the naturalness of a mountain farmer clearing his field of stones, in the course of which a wall against erosion arises ‘of its own accord’. The wall corresponds to the hanging walls of the vineyards that lie above it – and in being positioned on the railway bank between the two tunnels of the Wachau railway line, viewpoints arise such as the 'only-just-saw-it' of the train passenger, or the 'only-saw-part-of-it' from the road, as well as the overall view when one climbs the little hill. The location of the sculpture is unspectacular, the hill an almost forgotten place.
