"Stein und Stein" (Stone and Stone) - a challenge to meditate.
The stone held hovering by a steel cable looks tied in. At the same time the constraint appears to be required to promote new growth. This contradiction creates the challenge for meditative viewing. The effectively graphic facet of the cable appears to be a further contradiction. Like a drawing on a three-dimensional object, it creates an additional contrast between the vegetative quality of the stone volume and the technoid scaffold that holds the bud, blossom or knot of this naturally occurring material in the air. Contradictions are part of human life. Some scientists think that human thought is binary. Seen like that the piece by Rudolf Moratti is a monument to human nature as such. The Tantrists believed that an unceasing power to change flows from form independent of whether people recognised the significance of the symbols. Close to a pier where a large number of people have to pass is the right place for a symbol of this kind.
