Village Square in Maria Roggendorf

Information
The design envisaged a number of measures that would change the look of the community while creating a social centre. The retractable roof was conceived as a functional and symbolically protective sculpture. The project was not completed as a majority could not be raised at council level.
A meeting place was to be created at the new village square for both the inhabitants and visitors. Johann Moser developed several measures that were to be partial interventions to change the appearance of the town and to create places where social life could take place. One example of this was the roof that could be extended. This variable roof resembles a sculpture which depending on its size would give the square colour and shadows and in its prototypical shape evoke a sense of shelter and protection. At the same time, it would be a functional piece of infrastructure and would be at the disposal of the village for various different usages. In addition, there would be three information stands and an outdoor garden that could be used for growing plants and herbs. The goal would be to intensify communication within the village and inform visitors at the square. Unfortunately, we were unable to win a majority for the proposal in the town council.
