Information
Morphological and botanical drawings in reduced white lines are mounted on coloured wall elements made of concrete in the exterior entrance area and on walls in the entrance hall. They lead into the building and then guide the view into the garden in the courtyard of the complex. The work's title is Memorizing Nature.
Project no longer on view
In this site specific work objective images from the natural sciences are contrasted with subjective memories and perceptions. Morphological botanical imagery and symbols in reduced or densely arranged white lines lead from the Botanischer Zaun (Botanic Fence) in the entrance zone inside the redesigned local pensioners' home and care centre in Hainfeld. The yellow-green mural in the hall leads the gaze back to the real garden in the atrium of the complex. The Botanischer Zaun accordingly separates the outdoors from the interior while providing a view of what lies behind. How could these simplified signifiers for a depiction of a plant convey the phases of florescence, or the shape of the cyme without owing just as much to the constructing and remembering aspects of the human mind as to scientific knowledge and ontology?
Or, put more simply: the white shapes freed from the coloured space are provided for associations, memories and imaginings. And they may be read on several levels: as patterns or designs from the 1950s to the 1970s, for example, which are very familiar to people of the generation concerned, or as images that draw on 'real' nature as experienced and the sensual experience associated with colours and smells, but also of personal tales, so updating stored impressions and experiences, or allowing new impressions to be created.
