Information
The stone sculptures by Alois Lindenbauer are the product of a preoccupation with stone structures from megalithic cultures in the Mediterranean region, Sweden and Japan. Simple and striking forms often appear like the ones here, creating a link between archaic beliefs and the present day.
Typical of Alois L. Lindenbauer's oeuvre is a fundamentally processual element based on observation and research. The artist relates materials to each other and deals with influences and interactions. An important group of works is his socalled "Sickerungen" which also focus on material change and "...present a process of changes in volume in direct contact with a fluid and solid material and examine the complex question of possible connections, or rather intergrowths..." (Peter Assmann) His stone sculptures are based on his preoccupation with stone buildings from Megalithic cultures in the Mediterranean region, in Sweden and in Japan. As here in Krems, this has often resulted in simple, yet striking formations that reveal a connection of archaic ideas and presentday positions, while passing on primal forms. Reffering to his fountain on the market square of Edlitz, the artist says: "Opening up a widereaching range just as water shapes our region as well as our life. Almost without any effort transitions can be found between various spatial densities, between archaism and now, Alps and the sea..." (Alois L. Lindenbauer)
