Information

In his sculptures, photographs, and installations, the artist Ingo Vetter explores approaches to public spaces, urban development, artistic materials, and artistic production under the conditions of globalization. For Public Art Lower Austria, Vetter created a permanent installation on a hill in Lanzendorf, near Mistelbach, which consists of a horizontal observation tower in the form of a 24-meter-long body of a windmill lying flat on the ground. Visitors can enter this horizontal cylinder and enjoy the views of the landscape in the Weinviertel region through its cut-out windows. In the tower’s interior are also photo collages by Magdalena Frey, which both complement and contrast with the views of the landscape. Because the horizontal tower runs counter to the common idea of observation towers, which are defined by their verticality and height, observers have the opportunity to see and experience the surrounding landscape, and their own position in it, from many new perspectives.
