Ulrich Rückriem :
Sculpture in Spitz

Back
Spitz, 1988

Information

Ulrich Rückriem parts natural stone using crevices, and cuts it into segments which he then rejoins in their original constellation and places them in relation to the surroundings.

"Each sculpture contains a gesture, an act that makes the material broader or presses it together, or alters its normal position, its relationship to the surface beneath... I only perform one action on the material for each piece."
(Willoughby Sharp, 'A Conversation with Ulrich Rückriem', in : Avalanche, autumn issue 1971, p.41)
