Sculptural Object
Back
Information
The object is such that inlaid light sources illuminate the access path and the path itself. Placed near the sports ground it serves as a playing area for children as well as a sitting area. Exposed concrete pieces painted red are used as material.
A functional object was designed as a contemporary counterpart to the (renovated) mosaic piece at the primary school next to the entrance to the gym. At the newly renovated and rebuilt school a sense of scale and transparency accompanied the length of the access. The sculptural object with a number of practical uses creates a smooth transition between the sports ground and the main entrance to the gym. The light sheets of concrete underlying the object serve to reflect the light, and during the day they function as a playing area for children. Consisting of a painted prefab piece, the object is such that inlaid light sources illuminate the access path and the path itself. Children use the object to play with. Exposed concrete pieces painted red are used as material. The surface has been left with framework and the edges have been kerbed. The lamps are flexible, built-in pieces with glass covers that were integrated in the prefab element.
